Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Meets OIC Secretary-General

New York, The Gulf Observer: On September 28, 2024, Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Hessein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting focused on the ongoing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OIC, as well as opportunities for partnership during Azerbaijan’s presidency of the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

Minister Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering strong relations with fellow OIC member states, emphasizing the importance of strengthening partnerships within the OIC framework. He noted that Azerbaijan remains dedicated to expanding its cooperation with the organization and contributing to its initiatives.

Azerbaijan’s role as an active member of the OIC and its contributions to the organization’s work were acknowledged with satisfaction. Minister Bayramov also briefed the OIC Secretary-General on Azerbaijan’s preparations for its COP29 presidency, outlining the negotiation process and the country’s key priorities, including the mobilization of financial resources to combat climate change.

Given the pressing need to address climate change, particularly for OIC countries, Azerbaijan expressed its readiness to cooperate within the framework of COP29. Both parties recognized the critical importance of global climate action and exchanged views on how the OIC and Azerbaijan could collaborate effectively during Azerbaijan’s presidency.

The meeting concluded with a productive exchange of opinions on other mutual interests, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s and the OIC’s commitment to continued collaboration in addressing global and regional challenges.
