Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Ordubad Historical-Architectural Reserve has been officially included in the Islamic World Heritage Tentative List.

The decision was adopted during the 13th session of the Islamic World Heritage Committee of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), held from February 10 to 13 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Ordubad, located in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, was declared a historical-architectural reserve in 1977 in recognition of its rich cultural heritage, distinctive urban planning, and preserved examples of traditional architecture.

The city had previously been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on October 24, 2001, underscoring its cultural and historical significance at the international level.

The inclusion of the Ordubad Historical-Architectural Reserve in the Islamic World Heritage Tentative List marks another important step in promoting and preserving Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage, while enhancing its visibility within the Islamic world and beyond.
