China and Luxembourg Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China is eager to collaborate with Luxembourg to advance the sustainable and sound development of China-EU relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed during a meeting with Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, on Monday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, praised Luxembourg as a key partner for China, highlighting the long-term and steady development of their bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations over 50 years ago.

Emphasizing China’s appreciation for Luxembourg’s positive and pragmatic policies toward China, Wang expressed China’s willingness to strengthen mutual political trust with Luxembourg, enhance complementary cooperation, and explore new opportunities in green development. He also underscored the importance of increasing people-to-people exchanges and making further strides in their bilateral relations.

With next year marking the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations, Wang reiterated that China views the EU as a partner, not a rival. He expressed hope that the EU will uphold its strategic autonomy in its dealings with China.

For his part, Bettel reaffirmed Luxembourg’s commitment to the one-China policy and emphasized the country’s eagerness to deepen cooperation with China. As a founding member of the EU, Luxembourg aims to foster mutual trust between the EU and China and further promote the EU-China partnership. Bettel also commended China as a major country worthy of trust and expressed hopes for China to continue playing a key role in promoting world peace and stability.
