China and Malaysia to Accelerate Cooperation: Wang Yi
Beijing, The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in substantive discussions with his Malaysian counterpart, Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, in Beijing on Thursday, underscoring the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Amid the bilateral talks, Wang Yi, who also holds the esteemed position as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reaffirmed China’s steadfast commitment to fostering robust relations with Malaysia, emphasizing the shared history of solidarity and mutual support between the two nations. Wang highlighted China’s unwavering support for Malaysia’s sovereign right to chart its own developmental trajectory, tailored to its unique national circumstances, and reiterated China’s commitment to bolstering high-level exchanges and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation initiatives.
Celebrating the auspicious occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, Wang Yi extolled the enduring camaraderie and unwavering support that have characterized the bilateral ties, transcending geopolitical vicissitudes. He underscored China’s strategic prioritization of its relations with Malaysia, reaffirming the commitment to realizing the shared aspiration of building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, thereby laying a robust foundation for the next half-century of bilateral cooperation and friendship.
In acknowledgment of Malaysia’s pivotal role as a key member of ASEAN and a representative of emerging economies, Wang Yi emphasized the shared commitment of China and Malaysia to upholding their core interests and safeguarding national dignity. He articulated China’s readiness to enhance coordination with Malaysia to champion international equity, oppose unilateralism, and uphold the collective interests of developing nations.
Highlighting the robust economic ties between China and Malaysia, Wang Yi underscored China’s status as Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, affirming the imperative of accelerating cooperation in critical sectors such as infrastructure development, digital economy, green initiatives, and new energy vehicles. He advocated for the exchange of poverty alleviation experiences and enhanced inter-party engagements to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
In a reciprocal gesture, Mohamad bin Haji Hasan reiterated Malaysia’s steadfast adherence to the one-China policy and expressed opposition to external interference in the South China Sea issue. He affirmed Malaysia’s commitment to leveraging the milestone of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties with China to bolster multifaceted exchanges and deepen cooperation across various domains, including energy transition, digital economy, agriculture, and tourism.
The bilateral discussions also encompassed deliberations on pressing international and regional issues of mutual concern, with particular emphasis on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Mohamad lauded China’s principled stance on the issue and advocated for a just resolution through the two-state solution, an approach championed by Malaysia.
In response, Wang Yi expressed China’s willingness to enhance collaboration with Malaysia to expedite a resolution to the Palestinian issue, reaffirming the commitment to fostering peace and stability in the Middle East through concerted diplomatic efforts.
