China Pledges Closer Cooperation with UN to Advance Global Peace and Development: Wang Yi

New York, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations to promote world peace and development during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly at UN headquarters.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, extended his congratulations to the UN for successfully convening the Summit of the Future. He praised the adoption of the Pact for the Future as a reflection of the shared aspirations of most nations and as a document that upholds the principles of multilateralism.

“China stands ready to work closely with the UN to translate the vision of the Pact for the Future into tangible action, aiming to build a better future for all humankind,” Wang Yi said. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the authority of the UN and its central role in global governance, particularly at a time when the international landscape is becoming increasingly complex, and global challenges are escalating.

Wang also reaffirmed China’s full support for the UN’s efforts, particularly in the reform of the global financial framework and its role in coordinating the application of artificial intelligence in international governance. He underscored China’s backing for the UN’s initiatives to address crises, such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, in order to bolster the UN’s capacity to maintain global peace and security.

In response, Secretary-General Guterres expressed his gratitude for China’s long-standing support of the UN and the nation’s active contribution to the success of the Summit of the Future. He stressed the importance of turning the commitments made during the summit into action, with the Pact for the Future being a crucial step towards global cooperation.

Guterres also called for international unity in combating protectionism and voiced his expectation that China would continue to play a pivotal role in international affairs. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to peace and development, pledging that the organization will spare no effort in fulfilling its global responsibilities.

The meeting underscored the shared vision of China and the UN to work together in addressing pressing global challenges and achieving sustainable development.
