Chinese FM Holds Talks with Iranian President Pezeshkian Ahead of UNGA 79th Session
New York, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ahead of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The meeting, held at Pezeshkian’s residence in New York, focused on deepening bilateral relations and addressing global challenges, including multilateralism and regional security.
During the talks, President Pezeshkian described the relations between Beijing and Tehran as “deep-rooted and historical,” emphasizing the significance Iran places on its ties with China. “We attach great importance to China and seek to deepen and expand cooperation in all fields,” the Iranian president said.
Highlighting a shared commitment to multilateralism, Pezeshkian underscored the importance of working together to prevent coercive powers from imposing their demands on other nations. He noted that the development of multilateralism is a common goal for both Iran and China, adding, “Our region has the potential to become a model for global development, given its ancient civilization, unique geography, abundant natural resources, and dense population.”
Pezeshkian also emphasized the importance of implementing the 25-year cooperation agreement between Tehran and Beijing, expressing optimism that it would contribute to peace, security, economic growth, and development in both nations.
Addressing the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Pezeshkian condemned the actions of the Israeli regime, which he said violate legal frameworks and are unacceptable to human conscience. He stressed that countries claiming to defend human rights are supporting these actions. The Iranian president called for China’s influential role in the global community to help stop the violence and ensure justice for the Palestinian people.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi echoed Pezeshkian’s sentiments, emphasizing the long-standing historical and cultural ties between China and Iran. He expressed China’s commitment to advancing economic relations with Iran, despite external pressures. “Contrary to the wishes of some countries, we view this new era as an opportunity to enhance cooperation and overcome obstacles in our bilateral relations,” Wang stated.
Wang reaffirmed China’s determination to fully implement the 25-year strategic cooperation agreement with Iran, which aims to bolster economic and political ties between the two nations.
On the issue of Gaza, Wang condemned Israel’s actions, noting that the violence and displacement of Palestinian people have destabilized the region. He stressed that the fate of the region should be determined by its countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, and expressed hope for peace, stability, and security in the Middle East.
The meeting underscored the strong and growing partnership between China and Iran as both countries work to expand their cooperation on the global stage while addressing critical regional and international issues.
