Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Universal and Illumination’s animated comedy “Despicable Me 4” secured the second spot on the Chinese mainland box office chart on Friday, marking its first day of screening. The latest installment of the popular franchise garnered 41.18 million yuan (approximately 5.77 million U.S. dollars), according to data from the China Movie Data Information Network.

Leading the chart was the crime thriller “A Place Called Silence,” which continued its reign with a daily earning of 68.35 million yuan. Jackie Chan’s epic drama “A Legend” claimed the third spot, earning 8.59 million yuan.

The total box office revenue for the Chinese mainland on Friday reached 137.09 million yuan, reflecting a robust day for the film industry.
