Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina made a strong start at the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh, defeating American Amanda Anisimova in straight sets on the tournament’s opening day, Sports.kz reported.

World No. 6 Rybakina delivered a commanding performance to secure a 6-3, 7-5 victory over fourth-ranked Anisimova in their first group-stage encounter. Displaying consistency and power from the baseline, Rybakina maintained control throughout the match, sealing a confident win to open her campaign.

The Kazakhstani star is set to face Poland’s Iga Świątek, ranked World No. 2, and American Madison Keys, ranked No. 7, in her upcoming group-stage matches as she aims to advance to the semifinals.

This year’s WTA Finals, held in the Saudi capital for the first time, features record-breaking total prize money of US$15.5 million across singles and doubles events. The singles champion will take home a top prize of US$5,235,000.

World No. 3 Coco Gauff of the United States enters the tournament as the defending singles champion.
