Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has entered a strategic partnership with ADNEC Group to power the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi entirely with renewable and clean energy, making it the first and largest event venue in the Middle East to achieve this milestone. This landmark agreement, signed by EWEC CEO Othman Al Ali and ADNEC Group Managing Director and CEO Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, marks a significant step toward decarbonising the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) sector in the UAE.

Under the agreement, ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi will source 100% of its electricity from EWEC’s renewable and clean energy portfolio, validated by Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE). This collaboration will substantially reduce the carbon footprint of international events hosted at ADNEC and strengthens Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainability in line with the UAE’s net-zero targets.

Othman Al Ali highlighted that the partnership underscores EWEC’s role in accelerating the UAE’s transition to clean energy and enabling organisations to reduce Scope 2 emissions. He noted that the initiative sets a benchmark for decarbonising major international events in Abu Dhabi.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri affirmed that this initiative aligns ADNEC Group’s operations with national sustainability objectives, positioning Abu Dhabi as a leading hub for sustainable event management in the region.

The agreement represents a pioneering step for the UAE’s business tourism sector, establishing ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi as a model of sustainability and enhancing its role as a regional leader in green event hosting.
