Indonesia and Belarus Forge Closer Defense Cooperation

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has established a new phase of defense cooperation with the Belarusian military, signaling a commitment to enhancing bilateral ties through military collaboration, defense industry development, and technology exchange.
The partnership was formalized during a meeting between Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and the Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, Major General Pavel Nikolaevich Muraveyko, held in Belarus on July 28.
According to an official press release issued Wednesday, the meeting outlined a broad range of potential cooperative initiatives, including joint military exercises, training programs, and the development of primary weapon system technology.
“The meeting discussed defense cooperation, particularly in the development of the defense industry, military education and training, and technology exchange,” said Brigadier General Frega Wenas Inkiriwang, Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the Defense Ministry’s General Secretariat, when confirmed in Jakarta.
Among the key topics was Indonesia’s planned participation in MILEX-2025, the International Exhibition of Arms and Military Machinery scheduled to take place in Belarus. Brig. Gen. Inkiriwang described the invitation as a sign of appreciation for the strong and growing relationship between the Indonesian and Belarusian armed forces.
He confirmed that Indonesia will send representatives to the exhibition through its accredited Defense Attaché to the Russian Federation and Belarus.
“Indonesia’s participation is expected to open new avenues for strengthening cooperation in the defense industry, particularly in areas such as technology transfer, weapons systems development, and the enhancement of national industrial capacity,” Inkiriwang stated.
The deepening collaboration is seen as a strategic move to boost Indonesia’s defense modernization agenda and reinforce bilateral relations between Jakarta and Minsk.
