Indonesia and Denmark Sign Strategic Action Plan to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen signed an action plan for strategic bilateral cooperation in Jakarta on Tuesday, reaffirming their countries’ commitment to strengthening Indonesia–Denmark relations.

The action plan, titled “Strategic Partnership for a Sustainable and Resilient Future”, will guide bilateral cooperation between 2025 and 2029. It outlines a comprehensive roadmap covering various sectors, including economy, trade, investment, climate change, and the green energy transition.

“Through the action plan, we hope there will be something bigger and more progressive that can be reached by our two countries,” Minister Sugiono stated following his meeting with Minister Rasmussen.

The action plan also includes collaborative frameworks in the areas of environmental sustainability, food and agriculture, good governance, education, culture, and tourism. Sugiono emphasized Denmark’s strategic role as one of Indonesia’s key partners in the Scandinavian region, particularly in the areas of economic and trade cooperation.

He noted that bilateral trade between Indonesia and Denmark surpassed US$400 million in the previous year, reflecting a nearly 10 percent increase compared to the year before.

As part of the agreement, Denmark pledged support for Indonesia’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in helping them meet export standards and access European Union markets. The two countries also agreed to intensify cooperation in waste management and the circular economy, which are among the core environmental priorities outlined in the action plan.

Minister Rasmussen’s visit to Jakarta also included meetings with other senior Indonesian officials. On Monday, he met with Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian to discuss innovation in firefighting services. Additionally, Rasmussen held talks with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, culminating in the signing of the third protocol amending the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on renewable energy and energy conservation.

The bilateral action plan is expected to lay the foundation for deeper, more sustainable collaboration, reflecting both nations’ shared vision for a resilient and forward-looking partnership.
