Indonesia and United States Strengthen Digital Sector Partnership to Support 2045 Vision
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia is intensifying its trade and investment cooperation with the United States to advance its 2045 Digital Vision, according to Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid. Speaking at a meeting with the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC), Hafid outlined the nation’s commitment to addressing digital challenges and driving development across three key pillars: the digital economy, digital government, and digital society.
“Indonesia’s Digital Vision focuses on orchestrating progress in the digital sector to build a digitally inclusive future,” Hafid emphasized.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria reinforced the shared vision for economic growth and digital transformation, which is pivotal in positioning Indonesia as a global digital leader.
“This comprehensive effort lays the groundwork for a digitally empowered Indonesia, fostering innovation, economic growth, and enhanced access to essential services,” Patria noted.
Focus on ASEAN Digital Integration
The two nations are currently in discussions on the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Electronic Commerce and Digital Economy (ACCED). Patria explained that the committee aims to review the implementation schedule and potentially accelerate the delivery of outcomes under the ASEAN Digital Integration Framework Action Plan (DIFAP).
Key priorities include advancing digital trade, enhancing digital payment systems, promoting entrepreneurship, and addressing emerging challenges within the evolving digital ecosystem.
Driving Economic Growth and Collaboration
Highlighting the broader goals of economic cooperation, Patria expressed confidence in the potential of the Indonesia-US partnership to drive inclusive and sustainable growth.
“With an economic growth target of eight percent, our collaboration in digital trade and technology is crucial to making Indonesia a competitive global digital power,” he said.
Indonesia also leads negotiations under the trade pillar of the Indo-Pacific Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), with significant emphasis on digital economy initiatives.
Collaboration in Cybersecurity and AI
The strategic partnership extends into critical areas such as cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (AI). Notably, the ASEAN Responsible AI Roadmap Workshop, held in Jakarta in June 2024 in collaboration with ASEAN and USAID, highlighted the ethical development of AI to support a future-ready digital economy.
“This initiative underscores the importance of responsible AI in shaping a digital economy aligned with regional values and aspirations,” Patria added.
The strengthened collaboration between Indonesia and the United States underscores a shared commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable growth in the digital era.
