Indonesia Calls for Accelerated Implementation of Two-State Solution

New York, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia has called for accelerated implementation of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, urging the international community to translate growing political support into concrete and coordinated action.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono made the remarks at the Ministerial-Level Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 24.

Sugiono said the Palestinian people continue to face violence and displacement and stressed the need for international efforts to address the situation. He noted that international support for the two-state solution has continued to grow, including through increased recognition of the State of Palestine.

Indonesia called on countries that have not yet recognised Palestine to do so, describing recognition as an important step toward the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

At the same time, Jakarta rejected actions it said threaten Palestinian statehood, including the expansion of Israeli settlements. Sugiono specifically cited the E1 settlement plan and called for international opposition to measures that could undermine prospects for a two-state solution.

Indonesia also underscored the importance of preserving the legal and historical status quo of holy sites in Jerusalem and reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and strengthening Palestinian institutional capacity.

According to Sugiono, political support for the two-state solution should be translated into coordinated measures aimed at safeguarding Palestinian statehood, upholding international law and addressing the ongoing occupation.

Indonesia further stressed that Palestinians should be involved in decisions concerning their future, with the objective of establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

As part of its continued engagement, Indonesia and the Netherlands are scheduled to co-host the next meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in The Hague in November.

Sugiono, who is leading Indonesia’s delegation to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, is also scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s national statement during the UN General Debate on September 26.
