Indonesia Reaffirms Commitment to Palestinian Cause at Pro-Palestinian Rally in Jakarta
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Hidayat Nur Wahid, reaffirmed Indonesia’s steadfast commitment to its 1945 Constitution, which unequivocally condemns all forms of colonialism, including the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Speaking at a pro-Palestinian rally held at Monas Square on Sunday, Nur Wahid emphasized the nation’s historical and constitutional rejection of colonialism.
Addressing thousands of demonstrators, the Deputy Speaker reiterated that the 1945 Constitution, enacted on August 18, 1945, enshrines the inalienable right to independence for all nations, including Palestine. He underscored Indonesia’s long-standing support for the Palestinian cause, a position championed by the country’s first president, Soekarno.
“As long as Palestine remains occupied, Israel will continue to be viewed as a colonizer,” Nur Wahid declared, echoing President Soekarno’s 1962 proclamation, which remains a guiding principle of Indonesia’s foreign policy.
Nur Wahid also highlighted the pivotal role played by Indonesian ulema in supporting the Palestinian struggle. He described the rally as a tangible expression of the principles enshrined in the constitution, emphasizing that supporting Palestine is both a moral and constitutional duty.
“We have repeatedly staged these rallies, and we shall never tire of doing so,” the Deputy Speaker asserted, reinforcing the nation’s unwavering dedication to the Palestinian cause. He stressed that this commitment is rooted not only in faith and constitutional principles but also in a deep sense of humanity.
The rally served as a powerful reminder of Indonesia’s enduring support for Palestine, a stance that transcends changes in government and remains a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy. The event further solidified Indonesia’s role as a vocal advocate for Palestinian independence on the global stage.
