Indonesia Reviews Two Years of Government Performance Ahead of 81st Independence Day

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Monday chaired a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace to review nearly two years of his administration’s performance and outline priorities ahead of the country’s 81st Independence Day celebrations on August 17, 2026.

The meeting brought together senior officials, including ministers and heads of government agencies, to assess the implementation of key policies and programmes while identifying areas requiring further improvement.

Addressing members of the Red White Cabinet, President Prabowo said the evaluation was essential to measure progress and ensure the government remained focused on delivering results for the Indonesian people.

“We have been working very hard for almost two years. Our heavy workloads may have made us lose track of how much we have achieved in the first two years,” the president said.

Prabowo acknowledged that his administration had faced significant challenges since taking office, citing increasingly complex global developments that have affected national governance and economic stability.

He urged cabinet members to concentrate on resolving current issues rather than assigning blame to previous administrations, emphasizing that every government confronts challenges unique to its time.

The president noted that Indonesia continues to face several pressing issues, including low teacher welfare, limited employment opportunities, extreme poverty, economic inequality, and illegal trade practices that have disrupted the national economy.

Despite these challenges, Prabowo said his government viewed them as an opportunity to strengthen its commitment to fulfilling the mandate entrusted by the Indonesian people. He highlighted that the administration had achieved significant progress, including resolving 108 major issues during the first year of governance.

“The latest report indicates 108 problems solved in more than one year of our administration. This is not a trivial feat,” he said.

At the same time, the president cautioned ministers against complacency, urging them to continue improving government performance and maintaining a strong focus on public service delivery.

Prabowo identified food security as one of the government’s top priorities, stressing that sustainable food production depends on reliable access to water and fertilizer, productive agricultural land, and effective public policies.

He also highlighted several flagship initiatives of his administration, including the Free Nutritious Meals programme, the distribution of digital interactive screens to schools, efforts to strengthen national energy security, investment promotion, the establishment of village cooperatives, and housing development programmes for low-income communities.

The outcomes of the plenary cabinet meeting will be compiled into a comprehensive report on the government’s performance over the past year, which will be presented ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day celebrations.
