Dubai, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia’s Industry Ministry has reinforced cooperation in the medical equipment sector with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), a Dubai government agency overseeing health services and numerous leading clinics and hospitals in the region. The collaboration aims to create opportunities for the Indonesian medical equipment industry to expand its export share to Dubai.

During the opening of the Medical Equipment Business Forum at the 2024 Arab Health exhibition in Dubai, Taufiek Bawazier, Director-General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industries (ILMATE) at the ministry, highlighted Indonesia’s capability to produce high-quality medical equipment. Products such as hospital furniture, syringes, electronic diagnostic equipment, and oxygen therapy machines have penetrated the international market, with exports reaching $209.4 million in 2023.

At the Arab Health exhibition, the ministry showcased products from 19 domestic medical equipment industries and organized a Medical Device Business Forum to showcase the quality of Indonesia-made medical devices. Bawazier also met with DHA Special Advisor Younis Mohammed Kazim to explore collaboration potential between Indonesian medical equipment manufacturers and health authorities in Dubai.

Kazim stated that Dubai, with 52 internationally standard hospitals and plans to build four more in 2024, sees the potential for rapid development in Indonesia’s medical equipment industry. He expressed confidence in Indonesia’s ability to succeed in managing health services for its citizens.

Additionally, the UAE government, in collaboration with the Indonesian government, is planning to build the Emirates-Indonesia Cardiology Hospital at Solo Technopark, Central Java. This hospital, with a capacity of 100 beds and a focus on heart/cardiovascular specialties, is expected to become operational in October 2024. The Indonesian medical equipment industry is anticipated to contribute to the hospital’s development by providing infrastructure such as hospital beds, operating tables, and technological equipment.
