Rabat, The Gulf Observer: The International University of Rabat (UIR) achieved a remarkable milestone at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, held from March 11 to 15 at Palexpo, securing four medals for its innovative projects and winning the prestigious Chinese Delegation Prize for Invention and Innovation—a first for a Moroccan team.

The global exhibition brought together more than 1,000 inventions from 35 countries, where projects were evaluated by an international jury in the presence of industrial partners and global investors.

The recognition of Morocco’s delegation reflects the creativity and scientific rigor of its researchers, highlighting the country’s growing role in global innovation.

Two of the university’s projects were awarded gold medals. The first innovation is a medical device designed to safely extract fractured endodontic instruments during dental procedures. Developed by the university’s engineering and health laboratories, the device uses a fine internal fiber to retrieve broken fragments from root canals, significantly reducing procedure time while protecting surrounding tissue.

The second gold medal was awarded for a spiral wind turbine capable of regulating its speed without electronics or external energy. Created by a multidisciplinary research team, the turbine features articulated centrifugal flaps that automatically limit rotation during strong winds, enhancing safety and reliability in renewable energy systems.

In addition, a bronze medal was granted to a smart system for monitoring chronic respiratory diseases. Developed by the university’s artificial intelligence research team, the system integrates physiological, environmental, and behavioral data collected from connected sensors to support personalized treatment and enable early medical intervention.

The fourth recognition—a bronze medal along with the Chinese Delegation Prize—was awarded for an innovative method to produce waterproof and earthquake-resistant construction materials using locally recycled resources. Developed through collaboration between the university’s innovation center and a private sector partner, the method transforms dredging sludge and other recycled materials into durable and sustainable construction solutions, particularly suited for rural infrastructure.

University representatives emphasized that these awards reflect their commitment to transforming research into practical solutions addressing health, environmental, and industrial challenges.

The International University of Rabat currently holds 734 invention patents, reinforcing its position as one of Africa’s most innovative universities for the sixth consecutive year.
