Istanbul Hosts High-Level Talks on Green Energy Corridor Project

Istanbul, The Gulf Observer: Discussions on the Green Energy Corridor project involving Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria took place in Istanbul, focusing on enhancing energy cooperation and the development of sustainable energy resources, according to News Hub Consultants.

Azerbaijan’s delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov, participated in the third meeting of the project’s steering committee, alongside representatives from Azərenerji, the country’s state-run energy company.

In his address, Deputy Minister Zeynalov outlined Azerbaijan’s energy transition strategy, emphasizing the country’s renewable energy potential and ongoing efforts to export green energy. He also highlighted the establishment of green energy zones in Azerbaijan and key initiatives focused on wind energy projects in the Caspian Sea. Furthermore, he elaborated on the green energy corridors aimed at connecting Azerbaijan to Europe.

The meeting also explored the possibility of expanding electricity exchange between the four countries and discussed the legal and contractual framework for the project. A draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on green energy transmission cooperation between the Ministries of Energy of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria was finalized.

As part of the visit, Azerbaijani officials met with Zafer Demircan, Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, to deliberate on the establishment of the green energy corridor between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Additionally, discussions were held on the Concept and Action Plan for developing a green energy zone in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Experts from BCG Consulting, Azərenerji, and Türkiye’s TEİAS reviewed technical and economic feasibility studies for infrastructure projects designed to support green energy exports.

The Green Energy Corridor project is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional energy security, promoting sustainable energy solutions, and strengthening energy ties between the participating nations.
