Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Transportation Ministry has confirmed that the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB) service will become operational on October 1, 2023.

“Right now, we are still conducting some trials, because safety is important,” said Novie Riyanto, the ministry’s Secretary General, after a meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday.

He said that the trials are being carried out to test the safety aspects, both in terms of facilities and infrastructure, and that his ministry ensured that the certification or operational permit process went smoothly.

Riyanto said that President Joko Widodo is scheduled to ride on the train on September 13.

The ministry is also developing supporting facilities ahead of the KCJB operation, including an access road and a toll road exit to the Halim Station.

KCJB is the first high-speed railway service in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Its trains will operate at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour.

It has a 142.3-km line that will connect Jakarta and Bandung, the capital of West Java province, with 13 tunnels and four stations: Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar.

To improve connectivity, KCJB will be connected to other public transportations, including the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi (Jabodebek) LRT and the Greater Bandung Commuter Line.
