Key Insights Unveiled by Wang Yi on the Evolution of China-U.S. Relations

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi elucidated upon the enlightenment derived from the progression of China-U.S. relations, emphasizing the pivotal role of peace as the foundational cornerstone underpinning the bilateral rapport. Yi underscored the intrinsic significance of fostering an environment conducive to peace in nurturing and fortifying the symbiotic ties between both nations. This sentiment reflects a broader understanding of the nuanced dynamics and the imperative need for stability in propelling the multifaceted facets of the Sino-American relationship towards constructive and mutually beneficial pathways.

Wang Yi, a distinguished member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, articulated these observations during a reception held in Beijing, commemorating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. His remarks underscored the significance of this historical milestone while elucidating upon the nuances and the evolving dynamics characterizing the enduring relationship between the two nations. This occasion served as a platform to reflect on the shared history and to reaffirm the commitment to dialogue and cooperation, fostering a deeper understanding and fortifying the foundation for continued engagement between China and the United States.

Wang said China-U.S. relations have gone through twists and turns, which has brought important lessons, adding that “no conflict or confrontation” between the two major countries is in itself the most important peace dividend for mankind.

Noting that cooperation is the most correct choice for China and the United States to get along, Wang said win-win cooperation is the most essential feature of China-U.S. exchanges.

He said the high level of bilateral trade and two-way investment deeply reflects the highly complementary economic structure of the two countries and their deep connection in the global industrial chain and supply chain. Artificial decoupling and blocking incurs more losses than gains.

Wang also put forward several propositions on implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state in San Francisco.

He called on both sides to adhere to mutual respect and establish correct understanding as soon as possible, stressing that China has no intention of replacing or overriding anyone, let alone seeking hegemony. China is committed to building stable, healthy and sustainable China-U.S. relations on the basis of mutual respect.

Both sides should uphold peaceful coexistence, especially in effectively managing differences, Wang said, voicing opposition to practices of resorting to confrontation, sanction or engaging in power hegemony and zero-sum game just because of differences.

Wang said both sides should continue to make full use of the mechanisms restored or established in the fields of diplomacy, economy, finance, commerce and agriculture to promote mutually beneficial cooperation.

At the reception, David Meale, the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in China, delivered an address extending heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the United States on the commemoration of the 45th anniversary marking the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S. Meale reiterated the United States’ commitment to advancing the shared objectives delineated by the heads of state of both nations. He affirmed the U.S. side’s dedication to implementing the consensual agreements reached, emphasizing the importance of promoting and fostering the steady, constructive evolution of bilateral relations between the United States and China. This reaffirmation signifies the mutual aspiration for continued cooperation and understanding between the two nations.
