Malaysia Announces Bid for UNESCO Executive Board Seat for 2025-2029 Term

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: The Malaysian Ministry of Education has announced that Malaysia will be vying for a seat on the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2025 to 2029 term.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who serves as President of the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU), will formally announce Malaysia’s candidacy during a meeting with UNESCO Deputy Director-General Xing Qu in Paris, France.

In a statement, the Ministry emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to advancing UNESCO’s objectives in key areas such as education, natural sciences, social sciences, culture, and global cooperation. The country aims to implement significant initiatives that align with UNESCO’s goals, contributing to sustainability, inclusiveness, opportunity creation, and global peace.

“This strategic move will enable Malaysia to make a meaningful contribution to UNESCO’s mission, enhancing our role in fostering sustainability and inclusiveness, while promoting global peace,” the Ministry stated.

Additionally, the Ministry highlighted Malaysia’s participation in Digital Learning Week 2024, noting that it aligns with the country’s educational focus on digital transformation. The event provides a platform for sharing best practices in digital education, exchanging opinions and information, and increasing Malaysia’s visibility on the international stage.
