Nahyan bin Zayed attends opening of IFMA World Muaythai Championships 2022
ABU DHABI, TGO: H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), attended today the opening of the IFMA World Muaythai Championship 2022 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.
The UAE Muaythai & Kickboxing Federation is hosting the event under the supervision of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA).
IFMA said Athletes from 100 countries are participating in the 10-day event which will be the first official qualifier for the World Combat Games 2023 in Riyadh.
This will be Abu Dhabi’s first time hosting the Muaythai World Championship, with an nine-day action packed schedule featuring more than 100 nations, and 600+ athletes battling on its grounds.
The championship will include diverse cultural activities, social and executive meetings, seminars, workshops, in addition to the main prestigious event the championship.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Vice President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC, Abudullah Al Neyadi, Chairman of both UAE and Arab Muay Thai Federations, Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, IFMA President, Stephan Fox, IFMA General Secretary, Charissa Tynan, IFMA Director General, and Tareq Almuhairi, CEO of the UAE Muaythai Federation.
IFMA World Championships 2022 is the official qualifier for all the European teams for the European Olympic Games 2023. Over 30 European countries have sent teams to the event to book their first official spot at the European Olympic Games.
IFMA Director General, Charissa Tynan, stated that this event will be an important one as Muaythai will make a major impact at the European Olympic Games.
She added that the IFMA team have worked very hard over the last year with the UAE Muaythai Federation to ensure a world-class event in which safety of the athletes is the key.
