National Assembly Chairman Hosts Second US Congressional Delegation in Việt Nam

Ha Noi, The Gulf Observer: In a significant development marking the deepening ties between Việt Nam and the United States under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, National Assembly Chairman Vương Đình Huệ extended a warm welcome to the second US Congressional delegation to visit Việt Nam since the elevation of their bilateral relations.
Led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the delegation emphasized the pivotal role of Việt Nam as a leading partner of the US in the Indo-Pacific region, signaling a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
During discussions, both sides underscored the transformative impact of the upgraded partnership, fostering opportunities for collaboration across various domains including innovation, artificial intelligence, human resources development, semiconductor industry, energy transition, supply chain resilience, sports, and educational exchanges.
Amidst the evolving geopolitical landscape, the legislators reaffirmed their commitment to responsible cooperation in the Asia Pacific, endorsing the Indo-Pacific Strategy and regional initiatives while bolstering support for ASEAN’s centrality, the ASEAN-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and the Mekong-US Partnership to foster peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Since 2023, Việt Nam has hosted seven delegations from the US Congress, facilitating enhanced mutual understanding and trust in the Việt Nam-US relationship.
Expressing gratitude for the US Congress’s role in advancing bilateral ties, Chairman Huệ urged for Việt Nam’s removal from the list of non-market economies, underscoring the nation’s active participation in numerous free trade agreements and its attractiveness to American investors.
In the realm of trade and investment, Việt Nam sought continued US support for stable, long-term trade relations and a conducive business environment, alongside knowledge exchange in policy development, financing, and technology assistance, particularly in meeting commitments made at COP26.
Chairman Huệ expressed hope for increased parliamentary exchanges, especially among young legislators, while highlighting the significance of joint efforts to address the lingering consequences of war, including the search for missing American soldiers and support programs for people with disabilities.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to advancing defense-security cooperation in alignment with regional and international realities. Việt Nam also called for US support for its and ASEAN’s principled stance on the East Sea (South China Sea) in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The dialogue reaffirmed the enduring partnership between Việt Nam and the United States, reflecting shared values and aspirations for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
