Oman Joins 9th Islamic Affairs Ministers' Conference

Makkah, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, is participating in the “9th Conference of Ministers of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in the Islamic World”. The two-day conference, which commenced today, focuses on the role of ministers in promoting the values of moderation.

Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, delivered Oman’s address, highlighting the global challenges such as the disruption of value concepts, moral imbalances, disputes, and wars. He emphasized that these issues lead to humanitarian and environmental disasters, economic crises, undermine development efforts, and threaten social cohesion.

“Our societies are not far from such challenges and their impacts because the Islamic world is an integral part of the fabric of the global community,” stated Al Maamari.

He further noted that Islamic societies frequently face polarization and hate speech, portraying them as burdens on civilization and modernity. Al Maamari stressed that this misrepresentation stems from a misleading historical narrative and warned that such negative claims often target families, the fundamental units of society, misusing the expansive reach of modern technology.

In this context, the minister underscored the “Message of Oman,” which promotes peace, harmony, and common human values. He highlighted Oman’s efforts in fostering tolerance, coexistence, and understanding, combating stereotypes about Islam and Muslims, and reducing hate speech and Islamophobia.

The conference aims to strengthen Islamic solidarity and cooperation among member states in the areas of advocacy, endowments, and Islamic affairs. It seeks to explore opportunities to streamline religious discourse and enhance the sanctity of places of worship. Additionally, the conference focuses on supporting relations with Islamic organizations worldwide to enable them to fulfill their Islamic mission based on humanitarian values.
