Iran Calls for Greater Palestinian Support on Human Rights Day

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Nasser Kanaani, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman of Iran, has called on Islamic nations to enhance their support for Palestinian rights. This statement was made in a memo issued on Sunday in commemoration of “Islamic Human Rights and Human Dignity Day,” an annual event observed on August 4.

Kanaani highlighted the historical significance of this day, noting that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) approved the Declaration of Islamic Human Rights in 1990, and in 2008, the Islamic Republic of Iran designated August 4 as “Islamic Human Rights and Human Dignity Day.”

He characterized Islam as the foremost proponent of human rights and urged Islamic governments and nations to act as principal advocates and true flagbearers of these rights. Kanaani emphasized that the advancement of human rights and their foundational values in today’s complex and turbulent world requires a collective and swift resolve, and the prevention of their exploitation by global powers for illegitimate political ends.

In his memo, Kanaani specifically called on all Islamic nations and governments to more effectively support the natural and human rights of millions of Palestinians who have endured siege, bombardment, displacement, and incarceration for decades. He underscored the necessity for the international community to fulfill its humanitarian obligations by ending the unacceptable immunity granted to the Zionist regime, which he accused of disregarding fundamental human rights principles and perpetuating ongoing assaults on human dignity.
