Oman Welcomes ICJ Opinion on Israeli Practices Affecting Palestinian Human Rights

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has expressed its approval of the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) opinion concerning the request from the United Nations General Assembly regarding “Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.”

In a statement, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its call for the international community to enforce international resolutions and conventions that demand an immediate end to the illegal occupation of the occupied territories and affirm the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed up on the opinion presented by the International Court of Justice regarding the United Nations General Assembly’s request to the Court concerning ‘Israeli practices that affect the human rights of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem,’ and the resulting confirmation of the illegality of Israeli practices in the occupied territories and the affirmation of the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people,” the statement read.

The Sultanate of Oman emphasized the importance of implementing the ICJ’s opinion on the legal consequences of the practices of the occupying state. “While the Sultanate of Oman welcomes the opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legal consequences of the practices of the occupying state, at the same time, it renews its call on the international community to implement international resolutions and conventions calling for an immediate end to the illegal occupation of the occupied territories and an end to settlement and the cycle of violence in the Palestinian territories,” the ministry stated.

Oman also reaffirmed its stance on granting the Palestinian people their inalienable right to establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
