Participants of Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons Visit Shusha

Shusha, The Gulf Observer: Participants of the international conference titled “Uniting Efforts and Enhancing Cooperation for Addressing the Issue of Missing Persons,” held within the framework of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons, visited the city of Shusha on October 10.
The delegation toured key landmarks, including the central square and the ancient walls of the Shusha Fortress — a site symbolizing Azerbaijan’s rich history, culture, and resilience.
Aydın Karimov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, briefed the visiting participants on the city’s historical importance, the destruction it suffered during the years of occupation, and the ongoing comprehensive reconstruction initiatives.
He noted that during nearly three decades of occupation, numerous historic buildings, mosques, and cultural monuments in Shusha were severely damaged or destroyed as a result of Armenian vandalism. Following the city’s liberation, the Azerbaijani government launched extensive restoration and rebuilding efforts aimed at reviving Shusha’s cultural heritage and historical character.
The visit provided international delegates with firsthand insight into the scale of reconstruction taking place in Shusha, reaffirming its symbolic role as a cornerstone of Azerbaijan’s cultural identity and post-conflict recovery.
