Prabowo, Anwar Strengthen Indonesia-Malaysia Ties During Historic Kuala Lumpur Meeting

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim engaged in discussions on strategic matters and bilateral relations during a luncheon hosted by PM Anwar on Thursday at Rumah Tangsi, a historic landmark in Kuala Lumpur.

According to the Presidential Secretariat, the meeting served as a significant symbol of the strong ties between Indonesia and Malaysia, further reinforcing cooperation across various sectors.

PM Anwar personally welcomed President Prabowo upon his arrival at Rumah Tangsi. The two leaders took a moment to admire the Kuala Lumpur skyline, including the iconic Petronas Towers, before attending an art exhibition highlighting Malaysia’s cultural and historical heritage.

The luncheon featured traditional attire, with PM Anwar donning a light blue, silvery batik cloth and President Prabowo wearing a dark brown batik ensemble. Rumah Tangsi, a favored venue for hosting state guests, recently hosted Singaporean PM Lawrence Wong earlier this week.

This marks President Prabowo’s first visit to Malaysia since assuming office. Accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, he arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 10 a.m. local time. The president is scheduled to return to Indonesia later in the day.

During their meeting, the leaders explored avenues to enhance bilateral relations and discussed cooperation in potential new areas. They also exchanged views on advancing the ASEAN Community and strengthening regional collaboration, particularly as Malaysia prepares to assume the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry emphasized the special relationship between the two nations, highlighting their extensive collaboration in economic, cultural, defense, and security sectors. Trade between the countries continues to thrive, reflecting their shared commitment to regional stability and prosperity.
