Italian Sailing Ship Amerigo Vespucci Makes First Visit to Oman
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The iconic Italian sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci arrived in Oman, marking its inaugural visit to the Sultanate. The ship was welcomed at Sultan Qaboos Port in Muscat Governorate by Commodore Jasem bin Mohammed Al Balushi, Senior Staff Officer of the Royal Navy of Oman.
The visit is part of the 32nd phase of the Amerigo Vespucci’s global tour, which commenced on July 1, 2023, from the Port of Genoa, Italy. This two-year journey aims to promote international friendship, cultural exchange, and maritime heritage.
The reception ceremony featured a performance by the Royal Navy of Oman’s band, including the Italian national anthem and other military pieces. Traditional Omani maritime arts were also displayed, celebrating the shared maritime traditions and fostering cultural connections between Oman and Italy.
The event was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Oman and senior officers of the Royal Navy of Oman. Both nations share a history of maritime collaboration, reflected in the Amerigo Vespucci’s voyage and Oman’s Shabab Oman II, both of which symbolize goodwill and international unity through seafaring.
