President Aliyev Highlights Role of Elders in Preserving National Values, Guiding Youth

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday underscored the vital role of elders in safeguarding national identity and guiding younger generations, as he addressed participants of the 9th Congress of the Council of Elders of Azerbaijan.
“It is gratifying that today our elders actively participate in all spheres of the country’s life,” the president said, emphasizing their continued contribution to social, cultural, and moral development.
Highlighting emerging global challenges, Aliyev noted that increasing threats—particularly the erosion of national, spiritual, and family values driven by globalization and the harmful influence of social media platforms—have elevated the importance of the institution of eldership in Azerbaijan.
“The growing threats in the world… further highlight the significance and role of the institution of eldership in Azerbaijan,” he stated.
The Azerbaijani leader stressed that one of the key responsibilities of elders is to instill a strong sense of national patriotism among youth, encouraging them to remain connected to their roots while guiding them toward constructive and responsible paths.
He reaffirmed the government’s recognition of elders as an essential pillar of society, contributing to stability, continuity of traditions, and the moral upbringing of future generations.
