Absheron, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on March 25 attended the inauguration ceremony of the “Absheron” Battery Energy Storage Center, established by “AzerEnergy” Open Joint-Stock Company, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure and sustainability efforts.

Chairman of the Board of “AzerEnergy” OJSC, Baba Rzayev, briefed the head of state on the key features and operational capabilities of the facility.

The project includes the installation of 50 accumulator batteries and 13 inverter containers at the site. Designed with advanced technology, the Battery Energy Storage Center is capable of reaching full charge or discharge within two hours, ensuring efficient energy management.

The facility enables the storage of surplus electricity, particularly energy generated during peak renewable production periods such as sunny hours, and facilitates its discharge into the grid during times of increased demand. This system enhances grid stability and optimizes energy utilization.

A dedicated control center has been established to manage the operations of the storage systems, ensuring seamless integration and monitoring. Additionally, a modern administrative building has been constructed, along with comprehensive landscaping and greening of the surrounding area.

During the visit, President Ilham Aliyev was also briefed on broader initiatives, including the integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid and ongoing digital transformation efforts within the energy sector.

The president formally inaugurated the facility by pressing the symbolic launch button, underscoring Azerbaijan’s commitment to modernizing its energy infrastructure and advancing sustainable energy solutions.
