President of Timor-Leste Begins State Visit to Vietnam

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: President of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta arrived in Hanoi on Wednesday evening, commencing his four-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President To Lam.

President Ramos-Horta was warmly welcomed at Nội Bài International Airport by a distinguished delegation, including Chairman of the Presidential Office Lê Khánh Hải, Deputy Foreign Minister Đỗ Hùng Việt, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste Tạ Văn Thông, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyễn Mạnh Quyền, and other senior officials.

Since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2002, Timor-Leste has seen three high-ranking visits to Vietnam. President Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao visited in August 2005, followed by President José Ramos-Horta in 2010, and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao in September 2013.

This current visit by President José Ramos-Horta marks the fourth high-level exchange between the two nations. It is expected to serve as a vital platform for both sides to discuss and implement measures to enhance cooperation and deepen bilateral relations, further strengthening their traditional friendship.
