President Prabowo Lauds Contributions of Previous Indonesian Presidents at Gerindra Party Anniversary Event

Bogor, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto has praised the contributions of Indonesia’s previous presidents, emphasizing that their service has laid a strong foundation for the nation’s prosperity. Speaking at the 17th anniversary of the Gerindra Party on Saturday, held at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Prabowo expressed his disapproval of negative comments directed towards Megawati Soekarnoputri, Indonesia’s 5th president and the first woman to hold the office.

Prabowo acknowledged the significant role that Megawati Soekarnoputri played in shaping Indonesia’s future. “I admit that Mrs. Mega has many contributions and successes for this Republic. I do not like it when anyone tries to speak badly about Mrs. Mega to me because I understand what she has done for this Republic,” Prabowo said.

He further encouraged party members to respect and recognize the positive aspects of each leader’s tenure, underscoring that all Indonesian presidents have worked diligently to ensure the nation’s well-being. Comparing nation-building to constructing a house, Prabowo remarked, “Soekarno built the fence, Soeharto built the house, and so on. Mr. Habibie, Mr. Gus Dur continued the building.”

Prabowo highlighted that each leader has contributed in their own way, playing complementary roles over time. He also recognized the efforts of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who led Indonesia for a decade amid numerous crises, and the current president, Joko Widodo, who introduced sustainability programs aimed at improving the welfare of the people.

Prabowo concluded his address by urging Indonesians to remember the positive legacies of past leaders. “They have done their best for the Indonesian people. Let us not forget these virtues. For the shortcomings, we must learn so that we can improve,” he said.
