President Tokayev Emphasizes Science and Education at Meeting with Scholars in Almaty

Almaty, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev convened a meeting with leading scholars in Almaty, as reported by the Akorda press service. The meeting took place in the historic Galym Ordasy building, a site renowned for its association with many of the nation’s prominent scientific figures.

During his address, President Tokayev highlighted the significance of the venue, noting that it has been the workplace of numerous eminent scientists who have made indelible contributions to Kazakhstan’s history. Among these notable figures was academician Kanysh Satbayev, whose 125th anniversary is being celebrated this year. Satbayev’s groundbreaking scientific work continues to benefit the country.

“We live in a time of science and education. For the prosperity of our nation, we must prioritize the development of these fields. There is no other option,” stated Tokayev, underscoring the critical role of science and education in national progress. He stressed that a country dependent solely on raw materials has no future.

President Tokayev emphasized the need for Kazakhstan to cultivate scholars, engineers, and inventors who are well-educated and capable of competing on a global scale. Amidst intensifying international competition, Kazakhstan is transitioning to a new economic model focused on creating a just, inclusive, and competitive economy rooted in science and innovation. Tokayev expressed his vision for Kazakhstan to be a leading nation, driven by its scientific potential.

A key part of this vision includes the draft law on science and technological policy currently under parliamentary consideration. The proposed legislation aims to address the best interests of the scientific community. Tokayev highlighted the growing investment in science, with a significant increase in grants for training qualified personnel over recent years.

Kazakhstan hosts 12 branches of prestigious international universities, with plans to open more. The number of universities conducting scientific research is also increasing, alongside the establishment of technological parks and engineering centers. Each year, 500 scholars receive internships abroad, and the Ministry allocates thousands of grants to support young researchers. Tokayev expressed confidence that these initiatives will significantly advance the nation’s scientific development.

During his foreign visits, President Tokayev frequently meets with international scholars, encouraging them to establish collaborative ties with their Kazakhstani counterparts. He emphasized that Kazakhstan’s balanced and constructive foreign policy has enabled the country to form equal and mutually beneficial relationships with interested states.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of President Tokayev’s commitment to enhancing Kazakhstan’s scientific and educational landscape, driving the nation towards a future of innovation and leadership.
