President Xi Begins Bilateral Meetings Ahead of 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping commenced a series of bilateral meetings on Monday with foreign leaders attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which is set to take place from September 4 to 6 in Beijing.

At 10 a.m., President Xi met with Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the Great Hall of the People. This meeting marks the beginning of several high-level engagements scheduled before the summit officially begins.

President Xi will participate in the FOCAC summit’s opening ceremony on September 5, where he is expected to deliver a keynote speech outlining China’s vision for its partnership with African nations. In addition, he will host a welcome banquet for the leaders and representatives attending the summit.

The 2024 FOCAC summit, following previous gatherings in Beijing (2006, 2018) and Johannesburg (2015), is another significant event that underscores the strong and enduring relationship between China and African countries. It is also the largest diplomatic event hosted by China in recent years, boasting the highest attendance of foreign leaders.
