President Xi Jinping Arrives in Macao for 25th Anniversary Celebrations
Macao, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Macao on Wednesday afternoon aboard a special plane, marking the start of his visit to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) in celebration of the 25th anniversary of its return to China.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, is scheduled to attend a gathering on Friday commemorating the milestone, as well as the inauguration ceremony of the sixth-term government of the Macao SAR. He will also conduct an inspection of the region during his visit.
In a brief speech delivered upon his arrival at the airport, Xi reflected on the success of the “one country, two systems” framework with Macao, emphasizing that the region’s development has been widely recognized and celebrated for its unique vitality and charm.
“Macao has become a pearl on the palm of our motherland,” Xi stated, expressing confidence in the region’s promising future. “This is the glory of Macao residents and the pride of all Chinese people.”
He also shared his personal fondness for Macao, noting that each visit to the city has been a source of delight for him. On behalf of the central government and the Chinese people, he extended sincere greetings and best wishes to all Macao residents, emphasizing that their well-being and Macao’s development have always been priorities for him.
During his visit, Xi said he looks forward to engaging in extensive and in-depth exchanges with local leaders and friends in Macao regarding the region’s future development. He expressed belief that Macao will continue to thrive by fully leveraging the advantages of “one country, two systems” and fostering innovation to create an even brighter future.
