President Xi Jinping Commends Chinese Olympians for Paris 2024 Success
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: President Xi Jinping praised China’s Olympic delegation on Tuesday for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Meeting with the delegation at the Great Hall of the People, Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, lauded the athletes for bringing glory to the nation and its people.
Team China achieved a historic feat in Paris, securing 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze medals, marking their best performance at an overseas Summer Olympics. Xi highlighted that this remarkable achievement reflects China’s growing strength in the new era and its emergence as a major player on the global sports stage.
“The fundamental reason why China has joined the ranks of the world’s leading sports nations is the country’s increasing national strength,” Xi stated. He emphasized the crucial role of advanced technological and material support for sports training, as well as the importance of creating a conducive environment and broad foundation for nurturing talent across various sports disciplines.
Xi reiterated China’s commitment to integrating national fitness and health initiatives, aiming to transform the nation into a global sports powerhouse. He noted that the Chinese athletes in Paris exemplified both the spirit of Chinese sports and the Olympic ideals, showcasing the rich heritage of traditional Chinese culture and presenting a vibrant, inclusive, and enterprising image of modern China to the world.
“The motherland and the people are proud of you and applaud you,” Xi declared, commending the delegation for their sportsmanship, moral conduct, and integrity, which have earned them widespread respect and recognition.
Looking ahead to future Olympic Games, Xi urged the athletes to remain humble and focused on improving their performance in both training and competitions. He encouraged them to continue excelling in competitive sports while contributing to national fitness and the development of youth sports in China.
The meeting was also attended by Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, and Li Xi, all members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, as well as Vice President Han Zheng.
