Hakan Fidan Emphasizes Türkiye’s Diplomatic Approach to Syrian Crisis

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed on Saturday that Türkiye has no intention of engaging in aggression or pursuing regime change in Syria. Speaking to reporters in the capital, Ankara, Fidan emphasized the need for tangible progress on key issues such as terrorism and refugees, which he said pose increasing threats within Syria.

“The lack of tangible steps on terrorism and refugees is creating a more substantial threat within Syria,” Fidan stated, stressing that Türkiye remains committed to pursuing diplomatic and constructive approaches. However, he warned that if these avenues fail, alternative measures would be considered when necessary.

Highlighting the ongoing ceasefire under the Astana Process, which has facilitated dialogue among key stakeholders for years, Fidan noted the importance of transitioning to a more robust structural mechanism aimed at achieving sustainable solutions.

“The Astana Process has maintained a ceasefire, but what we need now is to replace it with a better mechanism serving a greater goal,” he said.

Türkiye’s stance underscores its preference for diplomacy in addressing the complex Syrian crisis while leaving the door open for further measures if progress remains elusive. The remarks come as regional and international efforts continue to seek stability in Syria amidst persistent challenges.
