Putin Holds Meeting on Security of Russia’s Eastern Borders During Pacific Fleet Drills
Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on strengthening the security of Russia’s eastern borders while attending exercises of the Pacific Fleet, calling for additional measures to ensure the country’s security across all regions.
The meeting was held aboard the Varyag guided-missile cruiser with Pacific Fleet Commander Viktor Liin, Chief of the Federal Security Service’s Border Directorate for the Sakhalin Region Sergey Makhori and Acting Commander of the Russian Defense Ministry’s 68th Army Corps Alexey Shvedov.
Putin said that although Russia’s key efforts are currently focused on addressing challenges related to the special military operation, ensuring the security of the state along all its borders remains an essential responsibility.
“Obviously, key talks are being addressed today during the special military operation, but our duty is to ensure the security of the Russian state along all of its borders, in all regions,” Putin said.
The Russian president noted that the situation within the Pacific Fleet’s area of operations remains challenging. He referred to an assessment provided by the fleet commander the previous day and said he agreed with the evaluation.
Putin asked the senior military and security officials attending the meeting to present proposals for additional measures that could help create the necessary conditions for the effective fulfilment of Russia’s security objectives in the region.
The meeting took place as Putin attended Pacific Fleet exercises, underscoring Moscow’s focus on maintaining security and military readiness in Russia’s eastern regions and along its maritime borders.
