Putin Stresses Cybersecurity to Safeguard Russia’s Digital Sovereignty

Novo-Ogaryovo, The Gulf Observer: Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasised the critical importance of cybersecurity for the country, stating that Russia’s sustainable development depends largely on the active adoption of digital technologies.
Speaking at a meeting on cybersecurity on Wednesday, Putin said cyber threats were reaching a new level as digitalisation expanded, particularly amid what he described as direct and hybrid external aggression targeting economic activities, logistics, transport, social services, life-support systems and public administration.
The Russian president stressed that Moscow was consistently working to strengthen national sovereignty across all sectors, ranging from food and energy security to digital infrastructure.
Putin called for improvements across all components of Russia’s domestic digital security network to counter emerging threats. He highlighted the need to strengthen risk assessment and analysis, monitor dependence on external digital platforms, and develop mechanisms for responding promptly to cyberattacks.
He also underscored the importance of closer coordination among law enforcement agencies, security services, telecommunications operators, financial institutions, internet companies and other organisations involved in protecting the country’s digital infrastructure.
Addressing Russia’s digital transformation, Putin said the country was systematically developing the digital foundations of its economy and social sphere while expanding the deployment of services powered by artificial intelligence.
He noted that advanced technologies for data storage, processing and transmission, along with modern communication tools, were being introduced as part of these efforts.
Putin reiterated that ensuring digital security was essential to maintaining the resilience of the state and society, particularly as digital technologies become increasingly integrated into public services and economic activities.
He called for continued efforts to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities and improve coordination among relevant institutions and private-sector organisations to address evolving cyber risks and protect Russia’s digital infrastructure.
