Russia Values Strengthened Ties with Azerbaijan: Foreign Minister Lavrov

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted the significant progress in Russia-Azerbaijan relations during a press conference reviewing Russian diplomacy in 2024, as reported by media outlets.
“As regards the Russia-Azerbaijan relations, they are highly appreciated. It is a trusting relationship, with the [two] presidents maintaining regular communication, and there are no closed topics,” Lavrov stated, emphasizing the robust and open dialogue between the two nations.
Lavrov noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have been instrumental in fostering close cooperation, urging both governments to explore new mutually beneficial projects. Among the key initiatives are the North-South Transport Corridor and other strategic routes in the Caucasus, as well as joint efforts to mitigate the environmental challenges posed by the shallowing of the Caspian Sea.
Enhanced Collaboration in Key Areas
The Russian foreign minister also outlined the multifaceted nature of the bilateral partnership, which extends to international cooperation and practical measures to strengthen security. This includes efforts in combating terrorism, organized crime, and enhancing coordination between the countries’ armed forces and intelligence services.
“Naturally, we cooperate in the international arena, too. There have been contacts and practical steps are being taken to strengthen our capabilities in security, and the fight against terrorism and organized crime,” Lavrov said, underlining the importance of these joint initiatives in ensuring regional stability.
The deepening of Russia-Azerbaijan ties reflects a shared commitment to addressing pressing regional challenges and advancing collaborative opportunities in trade, infrastructure, and security, further solidifying their strategic partnership.
