Saudi Arabia Launches Global NovusCrete Consortium to Promote Sustainable Saltwater Concrete

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman on Sunday attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish the NovusCrete consortium, a groundbreaking global initiative aimed at developing and accelerating the adoption of sustainable and durable saltwater concrete.
The consortium, spearheaded by the Kingdom’s Oil Sustainability Program, seeks to revolutionize the construction sector by setting standards for seawater-based concrete, promoting recycling of construction waste, extending infrastructure lifespan, and minimizing environmental impact.
Prominent Saudi organizations involved in the initiative include the Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Investment Recycling Company, NEOM’s Design and Construction Sector, Sika, and ClimateCrete. The consortium also brings together international collaborators, including the American Concrete Institute, to foster global innovation in sustainable concrete technologies.
The consortium’s primary focus is to develop environmentally friendly solutions for concrete production, emphasizing the reduction of carbon emissions and enhancing material efficiency in the construction industry. By leveraging local materials and seawater concrete technologies, the initiative aims to improve the sustainability of Saudi Arabia’s construction sector while contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
The signing ceremony, held in Riyadh, was attended by key officials, including Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the PIF; Saad Al-Qasabi, governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization; and Khalid Al-Salem, president of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.
The NovusCrete consortium aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to achieve a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. By pioneering saltwater concrete solutions, the Kingdom continues to solidify its position as a global leader in sustainable development and innovation.
