Saudi Arabia to Host Workshop on Land Productivity and Soil Carbon
Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification will host a workshop focusing on monitoring land productivity dynamics and trends in soil organic carbon stocks in highly arid areas. The event is scheduled to take place in Riyadh from August 26 to 28, the center announced on Sunday.
The workshop will feature international experts and is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Saudi Arabia. This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to addressing the challenges of desertification and drought, which pose significant threats to both the environment and society.
This workshop also serves as a preparatory step for the upcoming COP 16, set to be held in Riyadh in December. The conference will focus on land degradation and soil organic carbon in arid regions, further emphasizing the global importance of these issues.
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification is dedicated to protecting, monitoring, and rehabilitating degraded vegetation sites across Saudi Arabia. The center also combats illegal logging and invests in pasture lands, forests, and national parks to promote sustainable development and contribute to the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
