Shahdag Hosts 2026 European Ski Mountaineering Championships

Gusar, The Gulf Observer: The 2026 ISMF European Ski Mountaineering Championships officially began on Wednesday at the Shahdag Mountain Resort in Azerbaijan, bringing together top athletes from across Europe for one of the sport’s major continental competitions.
Azerbaijan is being represented in the championship by five athletes: Nazrin Garibova, Nabiyulla Galabagiyev, Anid Sultanov, Abel Ismikhanov, and Nurid Shakaraliyev, who will compete against leading ski mountaineers from across the region.
The event, scheduled to run from March 4 to March 8, features the participation of 123 athletes representing several countries, including Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, Russia, Spain, Austria, Norway, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Greece, Andorra, and Sweden, as well as AIN (Neutral Status Athletes).
Hosted at the picturesque Shahdag Mountain Resort in the Gusar district, the championship highlights Azerbaijan’s growing role as a host for major international winter sports events.
The competition will continue through March 8, with athletes competing in multiple ski mountaineering disciplines over the coming days.
