Tajikistan Seeks to Expand Strategic Partnership with Qatar

Tajikistan

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Tajikistan has expressed strong interest in further strengthening and expanding friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with Qatar. President Emomali Rahmon made the remarks on August 23 during a meeting with Fahd Hamad Al-Suleiti, Director General of the Qatar Development Fund, along with a delegation of leading Qatari banks.

“We consider Qatar as one of the reputable countries in the Arab world and our important partner,” President Rahmon emphasized.

The discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the economic and banking sectors. Both sides explored proposals aimed at enhancing trade, investment, and collaboration across key sectors such as energy, industry, transport, agriculture, irrigation, mining, and mineral processing.

Tajikistan is currently negotiating with the Qatar Development Fund to secure grant financing for the continuation of the Rogun Hydropower Plant project. During his working visit to Doha in October 2024, President Rahmon proposed the establishment of a joint economic and investment fund to finance Tajikistan’s priority development initiatives.

The talks underscore Tajikistan’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Qatar, with a view to boosting economic cooperation and advancing large-scale infrastructure projects.
