Tragic Boat Accident in Northern Brazil
Brasília, The Gulf Observer: In a devastating incident, at least three people, including a one-year-old baby, lost their lives, and 16 others sustained injuries after a boat capsized in the Amazon River in northern Brazil. According to media reports, nine individuals are still missing, as confirmed by police on Tuesday.
The boat, named “M. Monteiro,” was transporting over 200 passengers when it caught fire following an explosion on Monday near the municipality of Uarini in Amazonas state. A police spokesperson and a statement from the Navy indicated that at least 183 people managed to survive the tragic event.
The vessel had departed from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas, on Saturday and was en route to Tabatinga, a city on the border with Colombia and Peru.
This incident marks the second fire on a passenger boat in the Amazonas region within three days. On Saturday, another boat, “Comandante Souza III,” also caught fire and capsized, resulting in four fatalities and leaving five people missing.
