TRNC Speaker Meets TURKPA Delegation to Discuss Strengthening Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer: On November 20, Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), met with a delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) led by Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasan.

During the meeting, officials highlighted the significance of the TRNC Assembly’s activities within the framework of its observer status at TURKPA over recent years. Particular attention was given to the successful outcome of the 1st Summit of Turkic Women Parliamentarians, held in the TRNC from May 28 to 31, 2025, under the auspices of the TURKPA Women Parliamentarians’ Group. The participants emphasized the importance of hosting similar international events and projects in the TRNC in the future.

Secretary General Ramil Hasan underlined that TURKPA will continue to provide full support to the TRNC Assembly in its upcoming activities, including plenary sessions, committee meetings, and informal gatherings of parliamentary speakers. He also briefed Speaker Öztürkler on key projects recently implemented by TURKPA and highlighted the high-level support extended to the TRNC by the Heads of State during the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Gabala.

The Secretary General noted the productive and dynamic cooperation established through the TRNC’s observer status in TURKPA and reiterated the Assembly’s readiness, within its mandate, to provide all possible support for the TRNC’s future initiatives. He also mentioned that under the leadership of TURKPA Chairman-in-Office Yerlan Koshanov, Speaker of the Majlis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, the Assembly has planned significant strategic initiatives for 2026, expressing hope for active participation from the TRNC delegation.

In response, Speaker Ziya Öztürkler expressed his sincere gratitude to Secretary General Hasan for TURKPA’s comprehensive support and his visit to the TRNC Assembly. He underscored that the TRNC forms an integral part of the Turkish nation and welcomed TURKPA’s efforts to strengthen ties within the Turkic World while addressing the TRNC’s challenges in accordance with international legal norms. Öztürkler also expressed confidence that TURKPA’s support would continue consistently and sustainably.

The meeting concluded with discussions on future avenues for cooperation and potential joint initiatives, reinforcing the commitment of both sides to deepen collaboration within the framework of the Turkic Parliamentary community.
