Türkiye's Fourth National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition Begins in Tromsø

Tromsø, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye’s Fourth National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition has commenced its journey from Tromsø, Norway, aiming to conduct extensive scientific research at 71 degrees north latitude.

Organized under the auspices of the Turkish Presidency and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and coordinated by the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Polar Research Institute, the expedition consists of an 11-member delegation. The team will embark on the 62-meter Norwegian-flagged vessel, Polar Xplorer, to carry out 16 scientific projects at 24 locations in the Arctic Ocean over the course of one month.

The primary focus of the expedition is to investigate the causes and effects of global climate change, particularly in regions where rapid environmental changes have been observed. The researchers will conduct assessments and collect samples, especially in marine areas, to better understand the dynamics of climate change.

In addition to climate studies, the team will explore similarities and differences between the Arctic and Antarctic regions. This follows their marine sampling conducted during the Eighth National Antarctic Science Expedition in the South Pole earlier this year.

The expedition will encompass studies in various fields including air and atmospheric sciences, physical sciences, life sciences, and marine sciences, contributing valuable data to the global scientific community.
