UAE Participates in Extraordinary ESC Session Ahead of 34th Arab League Summit

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) participated today in the extraordinary session of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) of the Arab League, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Cairo. This meeting, which took place at the senior officials’ level, is part of the preparatory discussions leading up to the Ministerial Session of the Arab Economic and Social Council scheduled for tomorrow.

The upcoming ministerial session will focus on the economic and social agenda for the 34th Arab League Summit and the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, both of which are set to take place in Baghdad next May. These sessions are expected to address key issues affecting the region’s developmental trajectory.

The UAE delegation was led by Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, and Ahmed bin Suleiman Al Malik, Head of the International Organisations Department at the Ministry.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, highlighted the critical role of artificial intelligence in transforming economic and social landscapes. She emphasized that technology and AI are now central to the success of development projects across various sectors.

Dr. Abu Ghazaleh noted that today’s extraordinary session aims to address vital topics proposed by member states, the General Secretariat, and ministerial councils, which will be presented at the upcoming Arab League Summit and the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit. She stressed that these discussions come at a time when the region faces exceptional challenges that have had a significant impact on developmental achievements.

The outcomes of these sessions are expected to set the stage for a focused dialogue on the region’s future economic and social development, with an emphasis on innovation and resilience in the face of contemporary challenges.
