US Commerce delegation to visit Uzbekistan
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: A delegation of the US Department of Commerce will arrive in Tashkent on 16 October, news agency reported. This was stated at a meeting between the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Javlon Vakhabov and the US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Marisa Lago, who will head the American delegation.
During the talks, the parties discussed in detail the agenda of the upcoming visit and the prospects for expanding the mutually beneficial partnership. The representative of the US Department of Commerce expressed her readiness to assist in the promotion of joint programs and initiatives aimed at expanding bilateral trade and investment relations.
As was emphasized, the US government is closely following Uzbekistan’s achievements in improving the business climate and the investment attractiveness of the republic. The Ministry of Commerce will continue to work closely with the Uzbek side and continue to provide full support to the transformations in our country
During the stay of the US delegation in Uzbekistan, meetings and negotiations are planned in a number of ministries and departments, visits to the production facilities of American and domestic companies, a briefing will be held with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan “AmCham Uzbekistan”. In addition, a meeting is expected with alumni of the US Department of Commerce Special Short-Term Business Internship Program (“SABIT”) and representatives of the Business Women’s Association of Uzbekistan.
A delegation from the Department of Commerce, led by a Deputy Minister, is visiting Uzbekistan for the first time since the end of the pandemic, and Marisa Lago will be the first high-level U.S. trade official in the administration of President Joe Biden to travel to our country.
In October 2018, Trade Minister Wilbur Ross visited Tashkent. In accordance with the agreements reached with Wilbur Ross, in June 2019, a certified Trade Mission of the US Department of Commerce arrived in Tashkent with 13 largest American companies in order to get acquainted in detail with the business and investment climate in Uzbekistan.
